She had a mischievous nature and a sneaky sense of humor. ![]() Following Marcel’s passing in 1990, her focus moved to her children and grandchildren, and eventually her great-grandchildren. Thérèse took pride in caring for her husband and children. Thérèse was a loving and attentive mother, often joking with Americans unfamiliar with French custom that she nursed her children with champagne. At that time the Detroit area had a strong French presence, and this encouraged them to emigrate there where their son Bernard, and daughter Carole were born. Shortly afterwards, they emigrated to Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, where their son John was born. Their first child, Annie, was born in France. Thérèse met the love of her life, Marcel Jean Condevaux, in Annemasse, and they soon married. This courage and toughness was something hidden below the surface and certainly present throughout her life. ![]() As a young woman in Gaillard she enjoyed dancing and sports, especially soccer … she took pride in playing goalie against her children and grandchildren into her 80’s! While a teenager during WWII, she smuggled guns into the mountains on trains in the presence of German soldiers, which she gave to her brother Jean and other members of the Resistance. Thérèse moved to Gaillard in the Haute-Savoie region of France when she was young, along with her parents, Tecla and Domenico, brother Jean and sister Catherine. ![]() This day, fittingly, was often Mother’s Day in the United States, and she took her role as Maman and Mémé very seriously! Thérèse was born in Aviano, Italy on May 10, 1924. Thérèse Angèle (Tassan-Toffola) Condevaux passed away peacefully early morning Apat home in Berkley, Michigan.
